The Journey is as Important as your Destination

There is one thing that never ceases to amaze me and that is the resilience of people in the midst of their darkest moments in life. I am always encouraged to read the inspirational journeys of the amazing women I get to meet through my business. I bring these stories to you, so you may be encouraged to grow and thrive in the moments of your life!

“Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination” ~Drake - Tweet that!

My whirlwind of a journey began in 2010. I graduated college, got married, and found out I was pregnant with twins! As exciting as these milestones can be, they were short lived.

On February 11 2011, I delivered my twins and began my journey into motherhood with one thirty week preemie boy who was struggling for his life in the NICU and a little angel girl who was stillborn. Over the next 4 months my son had to have three surgeries and while I thought our life couldn’t possibly get any harder, my husband decided to move out while I was at work one day.

A few weeks later on a Tuesday night, I had just updated my Facebook status saying “Sometimes I feel like we are coming out of the storm, and other times I feel like the storm is just beginning.” Only five minutes later, my now ex husband knocked down three of my apartment doors and assaulted me as I held my twelve pound baby who still had fresh stitches in his head and stomach from his fourth surgery only four days before.

Over the next few months my son went through yet another brain surgery, and I found out I was pregnant with a surprise baby from my estranged husband. I was shunned by many of my friends, told by a pastor that I could no longer serve at the church I grew up in, lost my job, got evicted, my car broke down, and I literally had zero income.

I entered 2012 thinking that this HAD to be our year. I gave birth to a ten pound baby boy in April who was failure to thrive in September because he only weighed eleven pounds and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him. All I could think was that this boy was supposed to be healthy and how was I going to  provide for two boys with significant medical needs?

At this point we were on disability, food stamps, and Medicaid but they didn’t even begin to touch our everyday expenses. I became increasingly frustrated because I didn’t know how I was going to ever get us out of this situation. If I worked then we would lose state assistance, I’d have to pay for a babysitter for two special needs children which would cost me more than I could earn per hour, and how would I get them to their medical appointments? I was in a losing battle.

Our lives finally took a turn for the better in 2014 when I started using Young Living Essential Oils. I was so tired of living in doctor’s offices and I was desperate to try something new to help my boys. In their short three years of life they have had thirteen surgeries and over two dozen medical diagnosis listed in their overflowing charts. This was no way to live. We needed something more and my babies deserved something better.

As I began to see significant results with my boys while using Young Living Essential Oils, I thought that I may as well try to sell a few kits and see if we could make some extra gas money to help us get to our appointments. Little did I know that in a short six months I would have almost one hundred people on my team!

Now I have the privilege of talking to people on a daily basis about oils and I have created lifelong relationships and friendships with the ladies on my team through my business (Young Living Essential Oils)! They have accepted me and my boys with open arms and allowed us into their homes so we can share how the oils are improving our lives! I get to create a very flexible schedule that allows me to still care for my boy's needs, and we have been able to get off of food stamps! (And hopefully more government programs soon!)

This may not have been the journey that I would have chosen or would have ever imagined, but now I have hope for our future and I am finally on the right path to help my family get to our desired destination.
