There’s an old story about a great jazz musician by the name of Miles Davis. It’s said that when he first started out as a young man in the NYC jazz clubs, he imitated another musician by the name of Charlie “Bird” Parker because he loved his style so much.

One night during a jam session, one of the players said, “Hey Miles, you’re playin’ real good, man! You sound a lot like Bird.” Miles was flattered, but the player went on, “We want to hear YOUR thing, though. Bird’s got Bird’s thing covered. What’s yours?”

From that experience, Miles Davis embraced his true self and his own individual talent. He went on to have a long and reputable career, very much defined by his own unique sound.

Like Miles, it is important that we find our unique voice instead of molding to what others think we should be, not becoming accustom to social standards or playing small because of the criticism we have received from others. We shine brightest when we embrace our unique gifts, talents, passions and interest. Besides, we live in a place where the world needs us to shine bright.

You are truly a unique being. Among the billions of others who walk this planet, there is not and will not ever be another like you. You are unique, you are extraordinary, and you are here for a purpose.  I often say, “There is a song within you that no else can sing!”  This song represents the brilliance within you.

Remember, no one else can do what you do, quite like you! Tweet That!

Hold your head high, bring your brilliance, creativity, passions, those things that come naturally to you to the forefront of your life. When you begin to do this, you will be living each day into your purpose.
