What occupies your time?
Most of us think of an occupation as a job, a career, or as a business but when we examine all of the definitions of the word occupation, we will see that one of the definitions is "a way of spending time". So really, our occupation is the way we choose to spend our time. Today I would like to bring your attention to some of the ways we choose to spend our time, possibly without even realizing it. Becoming aware of where our time is currently being occupied can help us move forward with more intention so we may live a life we love and thrive.
Occupying Our Time With Worry
Many of us occupy our time with worry and anxiety. We worry about everything under the sun including what might happen, what has already happened and we even take it a step further by impressing our worries upon others. The truth of the matter is, our worry causes more stress on our mind and body and even amplifies the stressful situation, while the worry itself does nothing to change the matter in which we are worried about.
What I have found to be true in my life is that my worry is an acknowledgment that God can’t handle what I have before me. Yet, time and time again all the evidence demonstrates the exact opposite to be the truth in my life.
Occupying Our Time With Fear
Some of us occupy our time with fear. Fear that we have allowed to grip us to the point where we can not take even one step forward to live and thrive. Sure, fear can at times sound off as a warning bell to danger in our lives, but we have often allowed it to rule over us in areas where it is not necessary, keeping us in bondage.
So remember, God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and of a sound mind.
Occupying Our Time With Destructive Habits
Sometimes without realizing it, we even occupy our time doing things that destroy our bodies physically through destructive habits, our minds mentally and emotionally through destructive thinking patterns and our spirits through spiritually limiting beliefs. These patterns can be broken and we can begin to thrive on a daily basis rather than live a life caught up in damaging patterns.
Our time in this life is limited, and every day that passes is an opportunity to thrive and be a light for others. Recently I posted this quote on my FB page:
"One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it’s worth watching." - Unknown
Will your life breathe life into others?
Will you build one another in love?
Will you be the conduit of grace and light that embodies truth?
Moving forward, what will you allow to occupy your time? Before you can answer that question it is important to note how it is being occupied right now and then consider what changes you might need to take in order to use your time in a life where you can thrive.
